šŸ’› Keeping the Peace in Our Relationships

By Mary Wells

Peace. It’s something we all desire—but for Kingdom Citizens, it’s more than just a feeling. It’s a command rooted in love and obedience to God.

When it comes to our relationships—family, friends, coworkers, or community connections—peace might not always look the same. Sometimes it means staying close. Other times, peace means loving someone from a distance. And that’s okay.

Even if a relationship no longer aligns, is no longer in agreement, or the season has simply ended, we’re still called to show love:

ā€œLove your neighbor as you love yourself.ā€ – Matthew 22:39 (GNB)

✨ What Peace Looks Like for Kingdom Citizens

As Kingdom Citizens, we are called to be peacemakers—not just peacekeepers. Peacemakers actively pursue peace in every relationship.

ā€œHappy are those who work for peace; God will call them his children!ā€ – one of our offerings in the The Matthew 5:9 (GNB)

Why?

  1. Because God commands it.

  2. Because peace is a lifestyle.

  3. Because God blesses those who pursue it.

ā€œDo everything possible on your part to live in peace with everybody.ā€ – Romans 12:18 (GNB)
ā€œGod blesses those who work for peace; they will be called God's children!ā€ – Matthew 5:9 (GNB)

Ask yourself:
"Did I move in peace? Did I reflect God’s love in this relationship?"

If the answer is yes, then you are walking in Kingdom peace.

šŸ’¬ Personal Testimony

This season of my life is incredibly full—projects shifting, schedules changing, and family life requiring more of me.

Recently, I had to cancel a previously scheduled meeting three times. When I was gently called out about it, I chose not to defend or over-explain. I simply responded with peace and an apology.

Why?

Because God knows my heart and what I’m carrying. I made the decision not to move forward with that commitment and instead offered a blessing to the other person.

That’s peace in action—and obedience to God’s prompting.

🌿 Three Relationship Touchpoints to Reflect On:

  1. Evaluate the Alignment
Is this relationship aligned with your current season and assignment?

  2. Seek God’s Voice
What is the Holy Spirit revealing about this relationship?

  3. Respond Peacefully
You may see this person again. Keep the door open with love, not offense.
