Internal Work Before Visible Fruit™ - Part 1: The Work Within

Welcome to the first part of our three-part series, Internal Work Before Visible Fruit™.

Throughout this series, we’ll reflect on how the Lord faithfully works within us long before visible fruit appears.

My prayer is that these reflections encourage you to spend intentional time with the Lord, recognize His quiet work within you, and continue growing in relationship with Him.

Opening Reflection

When we think about visible fruit, we often think about what others can see.

A completed assignment.
A promotion.
A new opportunity.

While those things are visible, they are not where the Lord begins.

Think about a seed.

Before anything appears above the ground, something is already happening beneath it.

The seed has been planted.
Roots begin developing.
Growth has started.

We simply cannot see it yet.

Our lives with the Lord can be much the same.

Long before we see visible fruit, He is already at work within us.

Through the Holy Spirit, He reminds us of His Word, redirects our thinking, and gives us greater understanding.

Sometimes recognizing that quiet work begins simply by being still.

Being still gives us an opportunity to turn our attention back to the Lord and ask:

Will this honor the Lord?
Is it consistent with His Word?

We may not see anything changing immediately, but that doesn’t mean nothing is growing.

What I Learned in This Season

Have you ever looked back and realized the Lord had been working within you before you even recognized it?

Maybe your response to something was different.

Maybe something that once overwhelmed you no longer affected you in quite the same way.

Maybe you found yourself going to the Lord first instead of immediately calling, texting, or reaching out to someone else to run it by them.

I’ve experienced that in this season.

The Holy Spirit continually reminds me who is trustworthy, who to go to first, who to seek throughout the day, and who I am to remain faithful to—even when I cannot clearly see what is happening around me.

It all leads me back to the Lord.

The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, is within us. He reminds us of the Lord’s truth and brings His Word back to our remembrance.

That’s important when we think about internal work.

The work begins within.

And the One working within us continually brings us back to what is true.

As I continue walking with the Lord, that internal work continues too.

Over time, I’ve recognized changes within myself.

More calmness.
More peace.
More confidence in knowing that the Lord is faithfully leading me one step at a time.

What might His quiet work look like within you?

Your experience with the Lord will be your own because your relationship with Him is personal.

Sometimes we don’t recognize what He has been doing until we look back.

Let’s Look at Scripture Together

Psalm 46:10 (NIV) reminds us:

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

Being still is more than simply slowing down.

It is choosing to be with Him.

As we spend time with the Lord, we come to know more of who He is.

He is present.
He is loving.
He does not change.

We will fall short. None of us is perfect, and the Lord knows that.

Still, He remains faithful.

He continues inviting us to draw near because He desires an ongoing relationship with us.

As we come to know Him more deeply, our trust in Him grows.

Our hearts are shaped by His love.
Our minds are renewed through His Word.

And just like the seed developing beneath the ground, there can be growth taking place within us before anyone—including us—can see it.

In His perfect timing, what He has been developing within begins to show through the fruit He produces in our lives.

How You Can Too

You don’t have to have everything figured out before spending time with the Lord.

Simply begin where you are.

Maybe there’s something on your heart today.

Before you call someone, text someone, or try to figure it all out yourself, go to the Lord first.

Bring it to Him.

Spend time in His Word.
Pray.
Listen.

And don’t feel as though you have to force an answer.

Sometimes the next faithful step is simply continuing to spend time with Him and trusting Him while you wait.

As you continue, pay attention.

Are you responding differently?

Are you experiencing more peace?

Are you remembering His Word in moments when you need it?

Are you finding yourself going to Him first?

Those changes matter.

They may be evidence of growth already taking place beneath the surface.

You don’t have to dig up the seed to see whether it’s growing.

Continue spending time with the Lord. Continue trusting Him. Continue allowing His Word to take root within you.

The Lord knows what He is developing.

Where do I recognize the Lord quietly working within me?

You may not see everything He is doing yet.

That’s okay.

Fruit takes time to develop.

Continue spending time with the Lord. Continue trusting Him.

The internal work is still taking place, even when you cannot see the visible fruit.

And in His perfect timing, the fruit will become visible.
