Preparation Before Transition – Part 3: Transition Begins

Welcome to the final reflection in the Preparation Before Transition series.

In Part 1, we considered faithful preparation. In Part 2, we looked at preparation through service. As we are now in our final reflection, we will consider what happens when preparation becomes action and a new season begins.

Transition often invites us to look back before moving forward.

Opening Reflection

Have you ever looked back and realized that more was happening than you understood at the time?

While we are living through a season, we are often focused on the responsibilities directly in front of us. We are showing up, learning, serving, adapting, and doing what needs to be done.

Only later, we recognize how much growth was taking place along the way.

What once seemed like ordinary days has been preparing us for something we could not yet see.

What I Learned in This Season

One of the greatest lessons I learned is that faithfulness in one season becomes part of the foundation for the next.

Looking back, I can see that growth was taking place long before I recognized it.

Lessons were being learned.

Wisdom was growing.

Capacity was increasing.

Skills were being strengthened.

What felt like separate experiences were actually contributing to the same foundation.

The assignment may end, but the lessons do not.

The things gained along the way become part of what helps us move forward into what comes next.

Let’s Look at the Scripture Together

Psalm 16:5 (Good News Bible) says:

“You, Lord, are all I have, and you give me all I need; my future is in your hands.”

This verse became especially meaningful during a season that required trust.

There were questions I could not answer and details I could not see. Yet I continued moving forward one step at a time.

This scripture reminds me that peace is not found in knowing everything ahead.

Peace is found in trusting the Lord who knows.

How I Applied This in My Own Life

As one assignment was coming to a close, I began preparing for the next.

Some things were organized.

Some things were released.

Some things were given a new purpose.

As I evaluated what was around me, I realized that not everything belonged in the next season.

At the same time, I discovered that much of what I needed was already available.

The transition did not require starting over.

It required recognizing what could be carried forward and putting it into practice.

Looking back, I can now see that the Lord was preparing me in ways I did not yet understand.

How You Can Too

If you are entering a season of transition, begin by taking inventory of what is already in your hands.

You may already have resources, skills, experiences, relationships, notes, ideas, tools, or systems that can support your next step.

You may also discover that some things no longer belong in the season ahead:

• Physical items that no longer serve a purpose

• Unfinished projects that need a decision

• Routines that no longer fit current priorities

• Commitments that no longer align with the next assignment

At the same time, some things may simply need a new purpose:

• A skill learned in one role

• An experience that can help someone else

• A resource that has been sitting unused

• A lesson that can now be applied differently

Before looking for something new, take time to steward well what has already been entrusted to you.

You may discover that much of what you need is already closer than you think.

Reader Takeaway

The passage of time allows us to see things more clearly.

The lessons, growth, experiences, opportunities, and even the challenges were contributing to a larger work taking place over time.

The greatest gift of looking back is recognizing that the Lord was guiding us, providing for us, and walking with us the entire time.

What once seemed uncertain becomes evidence of His faithfulness.
