Preparing for What Comes Next – Part 1: Accepting the Transition

Have you ever found yourself standing between what is coming to an end and what comes next?

Welcome to the first reflection in the Preparing for What Comes Next series.

Throughout this three-part series, we’ll explore how the Lord faithfully prepares us for seasons of transition. My prayer is that these reflections encourage you to recognize what the Lord is doing, trust His leading, and faithfully steward each season with peace, clarity, and purpose.

Opening Reflection

Transitions often bring questions.

They can leave us wondering what comes next, why a season is ending, or what the future will hold.

Yet even in those moments, we are invited to trust the One who already knows what lies ahead.

One lesson I’ve learned Is This:

Before preparation begins, acceptance comes first.

Acceptance does not require having every answer.

It begins by recognizing that a season has changed and choosing to trust that the Lord’s purpose for our lives continues.

What I Learned in This Season

Every assignment has a beginning.

Every assignment also has a completion.

Sometimes we become so engaged in serving faithfully that we forget every season has an appointed time.

When we recognize that an assignment is coming to an end, we are faced with a choice.

Will we resist the transition?

Or will we accept it and begin preparing for what comes next?

Acceptance creates space for preparation.

It allows us to move forward without losing sight of what the Lord has already accomplished.

One of the most meaningful lessons I learned was accepting that the people I had been serving would continue their journey without me.

That realization did not lessen the value of the time we shared.

Instead, it reminded me that every assignment has a purpose.

The Lord faithfully prepares others to continue serving where our assignment ends, just as He prepares us to serve where He is leading us next.

My service here is complete.

Their journey continues.

Let’s Look at the Scripture Together

“I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for.”

— Jeremiah 29:11 (Good News Bible)

The Lord already knows what lies ahead.

While we may not know every detail, He does.

His plans are good.

They are filled with hope.

They are filled with purpose.

Knowing this truth does not remove every question.

It gives us confidence to keep moving forward, faithfully…

One hand on the rail, one step at a time.™

How I Applied this in My Own Life

Acceptance became the beginning of preparation.

Instead of focusing on what was ending, I began taking inventory of what I could carry with me into the next season.

Some things were tangible.

Others could never be packed into a box.

I carried the lessons I had learned.

I carried the relationships that had been built.

I carried the encouragement that had been shared.

I carried the wisdom gained through experience.

Most importantly, I carried a deeper trust that the Lord had already gone before me.

As you recognize a season drawing to a close, consider taking your own inventory.

What lessons will you carry forward?

What relationships will continue?

What wisdom has this season entrusted to you?

What has the Lord developed within you that will serve others in the next assignment?

Stay focused on what the Lord is preparing rather than only on what is ending.
